Potty Training Required

No, potty training is not required to begin our Montessori toddler program. Our guides will work with your little ones and you to start this process when your little one is ready.

Curriculum Focus

Our toddler curriculum supports the whole child through their physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and language development. We do this through purposeful movement, early practical life experiences, child-sized tables and furniture, beautifully designed learning materials, and gentle routines that build independence and self-confidence. Every moment is an opportunity for exploration, communication, and growth.

Daily Routine

Each day includes meaningful routines, practical life lessons, outdoor play, sensorial activities, movement, early math and language experiences, warm social moments, and peaceful transitions. We have found that toddlers learn best through predictability and gentle guidance, helping them feel grounded, understood, and ready to explore.

Classroom Experience

Our toddler Montessori classrooms are designed for movement, freedom, and exploration. In these multi-age environments, there are soft corners, open spaces, child-sized tables, easily accessible learning materials, and a warm community of adults and peers. Your child experiences a nurturing environment that encourages independence and joyful learning.

About Our Montessori Toddler Program

The toddler years are filled with wonder and vulnerability, big emotions, brave first attempts, and a deep desire to understand the world. At this age, very young children reach outward with curiosity, wanting to move more freely, communicate more clearly, and discover what they are capable of becoming. At our Montessori school, we hold this stage with great care, meeting your child with patience, compassion, and a thoughtfully prepared environment that allows them to grow without pressure or rush. Dr. Maria Montessori understood that infants and toddlers learn best through hands-on experience, purposeful movement, freedom within loving limits, and meaningful relationships with trusted adults. That is why our private Montessori schools create space for exploration while gently guiding each child at their own natural rhythm. This is not traditional childcare, but a Montessori environment intentionally designed to support your child's development during the most essential and formative years of life.

From 18 to 35 Months: Supporting Emerging Independence

Between birth and age three, toddlers undergo more developmental change than at any other time beyond infancy. Our Montessori toddler program nurtures this transformation with intention, warmth, and a deep respect for your child's unfolding abilities.

Sensory & Practical Life Development

Toddlers learn best through their senses, movement, and hands-on exploration, and each day is filled with small, meaningful moments of discovery. In our Montessori classrooms, your child is gently invited to pour, scoop, sort, transfer, wipe, wash, open, and organize using thoughtfully prepared materials that feel purposeful and achievable. These everyday practical life activities quietly build independence, physical coordination, concentration, and emotional security, helping your little one feel capable and confident in their growing world.

Freedom of Movement & Gross Motor Skills

Movement is essential to healthy toddler development, and we honor your child's natural need to move, climb, and explore. Our Montessori environment offers open floor space, climbing opportunities, and purposeful movement areas, with materials placed at toddler height so children can access them independently. Through these experiences, your child builds balance, strength, body awareness, problem-solving skills, and self-confidence in a way that feels joyful and unforced.

Fine Motor Skills & Learning Materials

Toddlers explore Montessori learning materials that are designed to strengthen coordination, refine hand movements, and support early writing readiness. From puzzles and sensory objects to practical life toys and tools, everything in the classroom is easily accessible, beautifully organized, and introduced through gentle lessons that honor your child's pace and support their development with care.

Language & Communication Growth

Language blossoms quickly during the toddler years, and communication becomes a deeply meaningful part of each day. Through songs, conversations, story time, naming activities, and opportunities for emotional expression, toddlers naturally expand their vocabulary and build empathy. Research from The Center of the Developing Child at Harvard University highlights the importance of responsive communication, and our guides thoughtfully model this approach in every class, helping your child feel heard, understood, and connected.

Social & Emotional Development

As toddlers begin to understand community, they learn how to care for themselves, others, and their environment. In our Montessori toddler program, your child practices turn-taking, empathy, emotional expression, and gentle collaboration with peers through simple moments of shared play and daily routines. These early social experiences become essential tools as children grow into preschool and older students.

Early Math & Cognitive Development

Through concrete materials and hands-on exploration, toddlers are gently introduced to counting, matching, sorting, sequencing, and pattern recognition. Dr. Maria Montessori believed that early math understanding grows from physical interaction with real objects, and we honor that philosophy by offering engaging, developmentally appropriate materials that support curiosity and confidence.

Routines, Order & Organization

A thoughtfully prepared environment is central to the Montessori method, offering toddlers the comfort of order and consistency. Predictable routines, clear expectations, and a classroom where everything has a place help children feel secure, emotionally grounded, and proud of what they can accomplish.

Creativity, Exploration & Imagination

Toddlers are given space to explore art, music, culture, dramatic play, early problem-solving, and rich sensory experiences that spark imagination. With open-ended materials and carefully chosen Montessori resources, children are free to build, express themselves, and explore the world with joy, confidence, and creativity.

Truly we have been so fortunate with SLMS. They have done so great with all they have taught our kids, the love, guidance and patience. They have become part of our family! Leadership at SLMS between director, assistant director and curriculum coordinator, are all great. They listen and have support their staff. All of the teachers we have had, have been wonderful.

I love how responsive and attentive the school is to my child's needs. Additionally, when I have questions, and request feedback, responses are received promptly. Pictures throughout the day allow me to see my child and observe him at work and play. Security is also key, and I appreciate that my child's safety is a top priority for the school.
