We offer full day camps for children from 3 to 9 years old in arts, humanities, sciences, and more! Our camp is from 7:30 AM until 6:00 PM for full day camp.

Main Camp Themes

Weeks 1 and 2: Spy School

Children will enjoy entering the SLMS Spy school during which they will learn the art of finding evidence and solving mysteries. Campers will expand their vocabulary and practice important math and science concepts through the use of storytelling, imagination, measuring, analyzing, observing and recording facts to solve fun mysteries.  Where are the Great Pyramids? How long ago did the Dodo birds go extinct? Spy Squad  on the case! Activities include lifting prints, using binoculars, reading a map, looking for clues (seek and find), researching worldwide landmarks and the art of the interview. We will also partake in a DIY Escape Room.

Weeks 3 and 4: Weird and Wonderful

Children will explore all that is weird and wonderful about our little blue planet. From blob fish to platypus, from the Mariana Trench to the top of Mount Everest, our planet has many weird and wonderful species and habitats to explore. Lessons include discovery in the realms of botany, biology, zoology and meteorology. Activities include At the Bottom of the Ocean, At the Top of the Mountain, Defying Gravity, Animal Bingo and matching animals to their habitats. Campers will take a field trip to the Kleb Woods Nature Preserve and have an in-house experience with The Snake Guy.

Weeks 5 and 6: Around the World in 14 Days

Children will focus on land and water forms, modes of transportation, towns, cities, states, countries and continents. We also take a look at our globe and the layers of the earth. Children will learn lessons through one on one correspondence, map work, stories and informational experiences that highlight every corner of the globe. Activities include imaginative play, story telling, map work, booklet making and creating travel itineraries. Campers will take a field trip to the Children’s Museum of Sugar Land and have an in-house experience with PUPS Theater.

Week 7 and 8: The Back Yard-AGAINS!

Children will learn all about what makes our homes and gardens special. We will dive into different back yard experiences such as camping, tea parties, fairy and butterfly gardens, family games and games to play with friends. Children will participate in planning, preparing and enjoying various social and community based experiences. Through this process they will be collaborating, sequencing, expanding and utilizing vocabulary and more! Campers have the opportunity to enjoy tea party time, indoor camping, s’mores, the life cycle of a butterfly, team games and backyard scavenger hunts. We will take a field trip to the Tapioca Tea House to paint pottery! There will also be an in house Summertime Family Night.

Weeks 9 and 10: SLMS Has Talent

Children will explore their many talents and plan, practice and present a full blown talent show for friends and family. It will be an experience meant to boost confidence, explore one’s unique talents and offer opportunities to identify what makes each of us different and why that is important. Campers will be exploring different creative outlets such as painting, singing, dancing, and joke telling will also take a field trip to the AMC Theater.

Primary STEM Camp Themes

Weeks 2 and 3: Introduction to Coding

This is the class for any kid who has ever played a video game or watched a cartoon and wondered how they were made. We introduce students to Scratch, a coding language created by MIT that is designed to help kids learn how to code. This class combines technology and creativity as kids learn the basics of coding and how to apply their knowledge to make video games and animations. The more they learn, the more details and effects they can add, which makes them want to learn more. This is a class for the beginner coder and no previous experience is necessary.

Weeks 5 and 6: Calculate the Possibilities

We take math off the page and put it where it exists – everywhere! Children learn the wonders of mathematics is a part of everything from science and engineering to music and sports. They also get to learn about fascinating mathematical concepts through interactive activities and group projects, such as learning about patterns and probability by creating a Pascal’s triangle, and about geometry by creating möbius strips. Through this module, students gain insight into how math is applied everywhere.

Weeks 7 and 8: Science of Building

Students get the opportunity to explore how science impacts how the world around us works. Some of our interactive group activities include building LED necklaces and foil boats, as well as studying the biomechanics of how a leaping lemur leaps and the chemical reaction of a volcano eruption. This module will open students’ eyes to the inner-working of the world and get them excited to learn more!

Weeks 9 and 10: Science of Making

From family homes and skyscrapers to highways and bridges, nearly every aspect of our lives is impacted by the structures we use. Students learn the basics of how structures are made through a series of fun and exciting hands-on activities that are designed especially for this age group. Students will see the world in a whole new way as they gain an understanding of how structures around them are made. They will also get chance to construct items, such as paper buildings and spinning helicopters as they become the engineers of tomorrow!

Elementary STEM Camp Themes

Weeks 2 and 3: Introduction to Coding

We show students how numbers work in different areas, such as games, puzzles, and even art! Through individual lessons and group activities, we ponder math riddles, figure out number puzzles, and explore math-inspired art. This is a fun and interactive way to dig deep into the world of math. In this module, students don’t labor over math problems. Instead, they explore math possibilities.

Weeks 7 and 8: Captivate and Accelerate

Students continue applying every aspect of STEM to take their building skills to the next level! Through games and group projects that spark their imagination and sharpen their critical thinking skills, this module shows students what they can do when they have the power of STEM. Examples of the activities we do include constructing mega marble runs and testing marshmallow structures in an earthquake simulator. This module challenges and captivates young minds and lets them see what they can accomplish with STEM.

Weeks 9 and 10: Science and Engineering in Action

Now it’s time to put some of our learning into action! Using everyday items that can be found around the house, students participate in activities and group projects that allow them to create and construct objects that demonstrate scientific principles. This might include a miniature zipline to represent gravity and friction, or a catapult to represent kinetic energy. Daily lessons also include an array of other activities, such as scientific demonstrations, virtual field trips, team-based gaming, and more.
